Still, he insisted, "This isn't an act. I love you. I can't live without you."
"Perhaps you're just used to having me around," I countered.
"No, it's not that," he protested.
"I've never doubted the love we once shared. I believe you truly loved me, and I truly loved you. But times have changed. We both have new paths to follow. Maybe… We're just no longer right for each other in this stage of life."
I looked into his eyes and saw a trace of resignation. Deep down, he seemed to understand that the rift between us was irreparable. However, he was reluctant to face the truth.
