My lips twitched when I remembered what it means. My med student cousin lectured me about the so called ‘ringing in the ears’ known as tinnitus which sound like blowing, roaring, buzzing, hissing, humming, whistling, or sizzling. The noises heard can be soft or loud. The person may even think they’re hearing air escaping, water running, the inside of a seashell, or musical notes. It can happen when you are over-sensitive to a loud noise. “I have to go,” I cleared my throat and gathered my things then my unfinished milk tea.

They had found Silver, and now, they would finally get the answers they sought. The voices were like a cacophony in my mind, each one clamoring for attention. I tried to focus on one, but it was like trying to grasp a handful of sand the more I squeezed, the more it slipped through my fingers. I felt like I was drowning in a sea of sound, unable to escape the torrent of thoughts and emotions that flooded my mind.

I'm sure I was making the exact same sounds. There were men talking above the white noise. I recognized it because it sounded so different from the rest of us. They sounded alive. They talked about something but I couldn't concentrate. It was hard to focus when you didn't know which way the floor went. They jabbered on and yelled at one point before loud noises that pierced my brain were heard. It sounded like bursts of thunder.

A quiet voice called out, sounding like it was under water. A pinch of pain shot into Faith's arm before there was a burst in her ears and her body made her take a deep breath in. It felt as though a bubble exploded in Faith's mind, and then sound rushed back to her and she was able to hear a clock ticking and machine beeping. "Calm down Faith, you're all right." A foreign voice relaxed her.

Beep* Her enhanced hearing, once a gift, now cursed her. The relentless honking of vehicles drilled into her brain, each echo threatening her skull to split into two. Sirens howling in the distance, voices rising in panic, the sharp crackle of broken glass shifting around her. And worse, the low, maddening buzzing that seemed to come from inside her ears, like static crawling beneath her skin. She moaned. Then– *Bang. Bang. Bang* The sudden pounding on her window jolted her back to the surface.

Sera I'm deep in sleep when I hear it..the voices. They come low at first, muffled and distant like they're far away. But they're there, and they are disturbing my sleep. I groan, turning onto my side as I press my face deeper into my pillow, trying to ignore it. Still, the sound persists, traveling through the walls and rattling my banging skull. Teeth clenching, I pick up my pillow and place it over my head, blocking out the sound, but it only muffles it a bit.

Angela The whooshing sound in my ear increased each minute which made it difficult to continue sleeping. I really need to see my doctor ASAP. W.H.O enlightened us on the fact that a whooshing sound can be dangerous if frequently experienced. I do not experience this frequently, but the banging headache which accompanied the whooshing sound made me conclude that I need to see my doctor. Maybe I’ll have Xavier drive me. The whispering voices in the background made my brows snap together. None of the staff dare enter our room without our permission, and Xavier isn’t in the habit of whispering around me.

"Even I wouldn't do any weird sexual thing to you after this just happened." He paused. Then offered a lopsided smile. "L-let's go to bed!" *** I couldn't sleep. The buzzing in my head was back—relentless, piercing, wrong. It wasn't just noise anymore, either. At first it started like an untuned radio, that low, staticky hum that settled behind my eyes like a migraine. But then, slowly, it started to shift. Like someone was turning a dial and the signal was just beginning to come through.

The whispers, the laughs, it felt like tiny ants were running inside my ears, eating away my eardrums bit by bit. For the rest of the day, I stayed in my room. I thanked the Almighty a thousand times that the rooms were soundproofed or else I would have gone crazy. I turned on my laptop in order to get some answers. But my fingers kept dancing over the keyboard. I couldn't find any words to type in. What exactly was I looking for? Even I had no idea.

My head is pounding, it feels like someone is banging against my skull continuously with a hammer. All I can hear is “*thump, *thump, *thump*” the sound of my brain pounding. I am terrified to open my eyes with how swollen they feel. What the hell happened to me, why was I feeling this way?
