A Love That Was Never Mine
I just turned my back on them and headed to my room, leaving them with nothing but my stubborn retreat.
A few minutes later, Henry knocked on my door, handing me a glass of milk.
“Here, drink this, honey. It’ll help you relax. You stay here and rest. We will be back a little later.”
I took the glass, knowing full well it was laced with a sedative.
Trying to sound playful, I joked, “Don’t sneak off with them and leave me behind while I’m asleep.”
Henry’s eyes flickered for a moment, and he quickly looked away. His voice, however, remained calm as he reassured me, “I’d never do that! I love you more than anything.”
