I couldn’t look away from the paper. The test results sat there like a loaded gun, just waiting for someone to fire it. Michael’s voice dropped lower, shaking with rage. “That is a full toxicology report from a private lab. Not the hospital. Not the clinic you bribed. A real lab. I had my own blood tested, twice.”

I rolled my eyes, "You shouldn't ever doubt me. You know I don't admit evidence unless I'm absolutely sure it's relevant. My attention to detail is why you like me so much." "Touché," Michael said, "Are you ready for the MID trial to start? I know you'll be out of your element testifying, especially the cross-examination." I nodded, taking a deep breath, "I'm as ready as I'll ever be. Though I'm angry, I've had years to sort through my feelings. I know I'll be able to stay calm on the stand."

He hurriedly looked back to his book. I smirked at him, then at Michael. “Friend,” I whispered. “Let’s test your new moral flexibility.” Michael’s eyes glowed faintly. “I am… listening.”

Aston moved toward the floor-to-ceiling window, tucking his both hands neatly into his pocket. Guilt and rage overwhelmed him so much, tightening his chest.

With that, I bolted out the door and drove to the pack's hospital. My heart hammered against my ribcage. When I arrived at the hospital, I quietly hoped I was wrong. That Micheal didn't lie to me. That I was just overthinking it. My footsteps echoed through the sterile wall as I made my way into my office to look up his medical records. Before a Beta is appointed, they must go through a mandatory full body test and Micheal was no exception. The results appeared and I could only stare at my screen in shock. The truth was right before me and it confirmed my worst fear.

She could not just let him, weak and on the verge of collapsing, leave her place in such a condition. Noticing her softened attitude, Michael was pleased. Ground rules? That was nothing. If it meant staying close to Ivanka, he would agree to anything.
