I nodded, then asked what had been on my mind since I stepped in, “Did Vance tell you anything?” Zayne let out a heavy breath, then sat on the arm of his couch, his fingers tapping his thigh—an old anxious habit. “You should have picked your phone yesterday,” He muttered, looking like he had a lot to say. “I’m here now. What’s up?” I asked, genuinely invested in whatever he had to say. He looked up at me from his sitting position. His mouth opened slightly, closed, then opened again, “I learned that my mum had been having an affair with… your Dad,” he said. “And that Connor now knows I’m not his son.”

Jared Richardson. "What the hell is this all, Brille?" I never expected this from you," Zuriel's dad said, shaking his head looking at me. "He's lying, nothing happened between us that night," tears welled up in my eyes. I always admire Mr. Jared Richardson, Zuriel's father; he's like a father to me, but today he didn't believe in me. I can't believe that this is happening here.

My dad runs Arlencia's underworld. He's the Accardi Don—untouchable. Zeke's dad used to be his Soldato. Took a bullet for him once. Got rich off the favor. Still kissed my dad's ring every time he saw him. And now Zeke thinks he can pin me to the floor? He's asking to die. My rage flared. "Zeke, my dad slapped a tracker on me. I set it off, his men show up in three minutes. You wanna test that?"

Denzel’s call came through, Michael stared at his phone for a few minutes. He doesn’t know what to say to his dad. He hit his car steering continuously. Finally, he summoned the courage to answer it. “Hello Dad”. Denzel's voice was sharp, “Michael, is she sitting in the car with you now?”. Michael exhaled, “No Dad, was told she isn’t at work today”. All hope Denzel had fallen apart at that announcement. He hissed, “Michelle must not hear this. This is bad news”.

“I know you’re dating Zaine. I’ll make sure your school life is the same as it is at home.” “Ooh don’t threaten me with a good time.” Demi had it with Michelle and her attitude. “If you so concerned about Zaine, why don’t you just ask him out. For all you know he probably doesn’t even like you.” “He likes me. every guy likes me. you’re just a cheap imitation of me anyway.” “Well dear sister if that’s what you believe. Enjoy living with dad and his MISTRESS.” Michelle raised her hand to slap her but her was caught in midair by their mother. “You are not leaving this house and you are not living with that man.”

“That’s good enough for me.” “Dad’s gone back to work.” Michelle said over her shoulder. “He’s taking it very seriously. He’s an assistant for an accounting firm and the pay is actually really good. He’s really trying, I don’t know how he found such a good job so fast, but you’d be proud of him.” “That’s great, Mickey.” I answered. I hummed and leaned my chin on her shoulder. I was proud that he was taking it seriously and it was good to hear that things were going well, that was fantastic news.

“Fine. But you better kill Chen. Man’s got reach even from prison.” We left him there and walked back upstairs. Outside in the fresh air, Zander asked, “You good?” “No,” I admitted. “But I will be when this is over. I keep thinking about Dad. How he trusted these people.” Zander kissed the top of my head. “He trusted you. That’s why he left you the shares. He knew you’d fight when he couldn’t.” I looked up at him. “And you? You’ve lost a mother and a father in all this. How are you holding up?”

“I don’t mean bad, Lily. I just don’t want Dad or anyone to say something that can give my children trauma. I’m in Bell City for an assignment, and I’ll leave when I’m done.” Lily only shook her head since she knows Natalie won’t listen to her and just decided to find a way to let everyone meet. “Mom, we will get to see Dad too, right?” Norah asked, her gaze fixed on Natalie. Natalie had once told them their dad is in Bell’s city and they would see him anytime they visited, not knowing it will be soon, but even her, don’t recognize the man plus it’s been six years and Bell’s city is big, she doubts if she can ever meet their father again.

I said "Someone who wants the truth to come out." "You and I know that's not who you are," Zac said. His voice was very calm as if he was in thought. I did not answer immediately. I picked up my coffee and took a sip even though it had gone cold. "My father worked for the Hill family," I said and Zac’s eyes became interested. "As their driver." And his face changed as understanding dawned in his eyes. "Your father was James Lake," he voiced out. "Yes," I said. Zac put his head in his hands.

Ezra dropped his fork, coming to Ella's aid, “But Mike said that. He said you and Daddy are no longer together that's why you are trying to get us a new dad.” “Mommy, is it true?” Ella questioned. Zara forced a smile, shaking her head, “No, honey. It's not true.” Relief washed over the kids faces, their frown replaced with a smile. “That means you and Daddy are still together. When is he going to come and live with us?” Zara scratched the back of her neck for a response, “Uhh…Daddy isn't coming back yet, he is busy…” Ace scoffed, dropping his fork loudly and pulling their attention for a second.
