I saw her lay in her bed in opposite direction with a book in front of her. The bedside lamps remained on while she read to herself. I was about to leave when she lifted her head and saw me. "Allison?" She really had seen me. "Hey," I pushed the door open and walked in. "What are you reading?" "It's a book on magica animals. Do you want to join me?" How could I say no to someone so adorable, "Sure. Why not?" She scooted on the bed instantly and I occupied the space beside hers. I tried to read to her but she insisted on reading to me.

Iris “And this is where I sit during reading time!” Miles shouts as he pulls Arthur and me toward a corner of the classroom filled with bean bags and pillows. “Miss Thompson lets me pick any book I want from the special shelf because I’m one of the best readers in class.” “Is that so?” Arthur asks with a grin. He glances at me with a sparkle in those green eyes, and I can’t help but return his smile.

She drops the book to my lap. “ Maybe someday.” I read the title of the book and she giggles. I didn’t know she love books, I heard book lovers are they prettiest creature and I just confirmed that. Michelle is the prettiest baby I have ever seen, and honestly I cannot describe her beauty. She has that perfect smile that will wash away every sorrow from your soul. “ I want you to read a few pages to me.” She jumps into my arms, and I hold her carefully, while she shows me the page I’d read out to her.

In her room, we got into a routine—I helped her with pajamas while Mikel picked books, then we sat on her bed as she chose. "This one first," Emma said, giving Mikel a book about a baby elephant finding her family. "Then Mommy can read the dolphin one." As Mikel read, his voice gentle, I watched him. He was focused on Emma, using funny voices and answering her questions. He was so loving it made my heart ache. When it was my turn, I felt aware of him beside me on Emma's bed. Our shoulders touched as we leaned over the book, and I smelled his cologne and leaves from their walk.

Kain and Riven could smell me on Jax anyway. In the hallway I found Angie. Her hair was everywhere. Her pajamas were askew. She ran to me. "Lira! Popsie didn't read my story tonight and I can't find Zuri." "Will you read to me?" she asked with pleading eyes. "I can't sleep without my story." My heart melted. "Of course." I took her to my room and tucked her into bed. I found a children's book about wolves. I read her a story about a little wolf who got lost in the woods but found a glowing stone that guided her home. Angie's eyes widened at every turn. Her mouth formed perfect little O's when I described the monsters hiding in the fog.
