he asks.
“No, it depends on the spell,” I tell him, closing my eyes and taking deep breaths. It’s been a long time since I had to do such an intricate spell.
“Why is this one impacting you so much?” he asks, moving the washcloth over my face.
“It wasn’t a simple spell. I had to make it so she could travel, but not run away. She had to be able to speak, but not use her words to ask for help from others. It would have been easy to, say, put a spell on her to keep her from leaving her cell. But this one had to be more about her intention, her desire to run or get away, rather than her physical movements. It takes a lot more effort and concentration when you add those layers in.”
