She settled onto the couch, her gaze drifting over the remnants of our life together, just the two of us against the world. As night fell, I stood on the balcony, Lina asleep in my arms, and looked out at the city I had to win back, not with thorns and fire, but with a story. The story of a mother and a daughter. And it began now.

I love you.” I tell him, and he hugs me tighter. “And we love you.” He answers before letting go.

The drama had begun and was far from over. "Mom, I already know this story. Even if I do absolutely nothing, you always say I'm a terrible daughter, and soon you'll start saying that so-and-so's daughter is better than me, that you wish you were what's-her-name's mother because she actually shows consideration for her mother, and so on.
