I will haunt the rich exclusively.” I snorted. “You already do that.” She grinned. “Practice makes perfect.” Then it happened. A scream tore through the night. Not a drunk’s yell. Not laughter. Not a lover’s argument spilling into the street. This was pain—pure, ripping, animal. Mae froze. So did I. Another scream followed. Closer. Then another, layered over it, deeper and broken short like someone choking on their own blood. My stomach dropped. “That’s not—” Mae started.

He looked at me, and for the first time in fifty-five chapters, the shadows were gone from his eyes. He leaned in, kissing me with a softness that made the world stand still. It wasn't a kiss of desperation; it was a kiss of peace. "It's over, Elara," he whispered against my lips. "The Monster is dead. Only the man is left."

I felt a monster in me get stronger as a roar tore out of my chest before I even realized I was speaking. With a violent swing of my arm, I hurled him away from me. Jake crashed across the gravel path with enough force to send loose stones flying in every direction. He rolled through wet leaves before slamming shoulder-first into the edge of the garden path. A harsh cough ripped through him as he curled onto one knee, clutching his bruised throat while struggling to drag air back into his lungs. The entire garden had fallen silent. She eats the thorns from the roses so she can spit them at people, stabbing them in the neck to slice their throats open until they bleed out and die.”

Elyse and Demitri circle it, analyzing its weak points. The swamp guy has eyes on Renee. Taylor quickly jumps into action, literally jumping through the monster, creating a huge man sized hole that quickly fills in. Okay, so they are literal to their element. She wanted to jump up and fight it but then Ron cluchted her hand and shook his head .

Jay hissed. “There’s not a thing in this world that I actually care about.” Monster appeared indifferent. “Is that so? What about your daughter?” Jay sat up straight. His profound pupils were locked onto Monster’s eyes. Monster’s smile froze slightly. “I don’t have a daughter.” He suddenly roared like thunder. Jay curled his lips. “Why are you getting stirred up?” He crossed his legs again, calmly admiring Monster’s current ugly state. Monster realized that he had lost his temper and forced himself to calm down. However, he could not help but ask, “Is Lil Thirteen dead or alive?”
