We told him how Papa cried when Crista shifted for the first time, but he pretended it was just dust in his eyes. I told them how he used to check under my bed for monsters even after I was old enough to know better.
Alec’s mouth barely softened.
“Good,” Alec said quietly, his tone solemn. “A papa should make monsters afraid of the dark.”
