We offer you this gift of love, A symbol of our faith above, Accept it with an open heart, And grant us blessings from the start." As the prayer ended, the seer, Lady Angela, stepped forward and offered a large offering to the moon goddess, thanking her for her guidance and protection. Naya felt a sense of peace and gratitude wash over her, knowing that the goddess was watching over her and the pack.

She watched the lake gently, the fishes. “Some of them are believed to be spiritual guides. They’re said to bring clarity, healing, even protection. While others are regular ones. Beautiful in their own creation.” I found myself imagining such beauty and peace restored to my own pack someday. Once I reclaimed it, I thought, perhaps I’d ask her guidance to bring back the rituals and reverence we’d lost. After a moment, I asked, “Will there be a ritual for the Blood Moon this year?”

It is a way to guide their souls home.” I nod. “Ascension so that they may be at peace.” He nods. “Yes, Sugar.” I hear voices rise and fall in an eerie cadence. “We don’t bury our dead as humans do. When a pack member dies, we wait for the moon. We shift and circle the bodies howling our farewells and allowing those howls to drift upwards to the moon. Guiding the souls there, and then we shift into our human forms and burn the bodies in the fires that you see.”

It’s supposed to allow the spirits of our departed to join her once more free of the turmoil of this earthly world. Though the ceremony itself isn’t a complicated one, it’s a time suck for Seiko, the pack’s Seer. Each pack has one, an elder blessed with visions of the past, present and future. The visions that come are specific to the phases of the moon. Waxing being the future, waning the past and a full moon, the effervescent present. Seiko’s gift will help guide each wolf spirit, in its own time, back to the goddess.
