She raised her left hand, the firelight from the stone hearth catching the raw, milky depths of the moonstone set within its cage of fire-forged silver. "I keep thinking I'm going to wake up," she whispered, her thumb tracing the intricate vines of the metal. "I keep thinking I'll open my eyes, and I'll be back in my old room, listening to the floorboards creak, praying no one notices me."
