The first night after the ceremony, the moon was as full as they’d ever seen, turning the world white and blue; the house glowed in it, the yard a washed ocean of pale, the inside lit with the flickering pulse of the fireplace where they’d collapsed in a heap at the close of chapter 57. Lizzy looked at the three, knowing their hunger suited the hour, and her own knotted through the chest, slow at first, then pounding.

“Good.” We walked back through the tunnel, silent but not alone. Every step felt lighter, like the ground itself recognized us now. When we reached the surface, the moon hung low, swollen and silver,the eclipse was coming. In three nights, the veil would be thin. The Door would wake. And we’d be ready. Morwen, meanwhile, stood in her chamber, staring at the empty space where her mirror had been. She’d sent another summons. Another command and no sight of us.
