I said, accepting her call on FaceTime. "You're just jealous you can't stand getting a tattoo. " She drawls. "Anywayyyy. Check out my tattoo." She lifts up her tank top. There's a large butterfly there with little Rs attached to the sides. "Butterflies indicate new beginnings," she beamed like she told me. Normally, butterflies would look hella childish, but the way the tattoo artist did it made it look nice. "It's beautiful." "I know, right." She put her shirt down, sitting right in front of the desk she put her laptop. "You should get one too." She lowers her voice. "After everything."

I thank her, and we chat as she hands me something and shows me where I can change. It’s a black teddy with stain ties on the thong. It’s nice and leaves nothing to the imagination. I turn and look at my back in the mirror. My Chinese dragon tattoo covers my back. It’s open paw under my shoulder blade holds an orb. In that orb is the Mother’s Revenge emblem, but it is tattooed with invisible ink. Only a certain light will make it visible.

“You had your initial tattooed on me, yes.” He shook his head and touched the tattoo on her ankle. “No. See, this is the heart. Half of the heart was extended down to form the letter J. Beside it is a butterfly. The body of the butterfly with a dot at the top is the letter I. The top part of the butterfly wing, is actually curved to form the letter N. Didn’t you notice why those lines were thicker than the rest of the lines?” Julianne stared at her ankle, making out the lines of her tattoo.

I looked down at myself, at the butterfly tattoo sitting on my own chest, and a shiver ran through me. The baby was me.
