3. The parade was fantastic this year, one of the best I'd seen. Costumed people of all stripes cavorted, marching around us while giant puppets danced and twirled through the air. Everywhere we looked, there was something to catch our attention, to engulf us in the Halloween spirit. Here a skeleton played guitar for a group of succubi, there a clown doll bounced on a pogo stick, while a man in leather pants and a chest harness juggled balls shaped like Jack-O-Lanterns. It was a scene out of Ray Bradbury, and I could tell from the permanent smile on her face that Maddie was eating it up.

We all gathered before him, and he gave a little speech about how he had inherited the charity of helping children’s hunger that had obviously been written by a professional. We all laughed as we were supposed to, and I was worried Sarah would be bored by the whole thing when Rob suddenly threw his arms in the air and stepped out of the little spotlight. There was a pause in the dimness, then another spot light shown on a performer in a black bodysuit and a white mask. A beat began, and then there were five performers dressed the same way. They stepped to the right like a crab, then the left, and then they made little crab-like motions with their hands, which drew laughs.

"I still feel a little, obsolete, I guess, not wearing anything on a day like Halloween," I say, seeing as how many of the other teens in school are a little more special looking with colors they don't usually have placed into their attire. That's just the tame side of things, while other teens have gone all-out with the constumes. There's a T-rex and a fariy queen chatting and walking by, and in one of the doorways I can spot a teen in a bee costume. There's even a teacher who has a crazy-scientist wig on, who is merrily talking and holding up a pumpking for another faculty member, dressed in the star and moon robe of a wizard.

"Yep! Now, the event we've been waiting for. Performances from our celebgrams! Zetta, Brand Ambassador of CreaGo! Please..." I had already changed my clothes. All the costumes had become more covered up because I asked for an extra jacket or cardi. We are supposed to appear with a white T-shirt, black baggy pants, a hat, a mask, and sunglasses. I asked for an extra jacket and it is immediately approved. How could I not, there would be a wave movement that is a little too sexy for me. The song starts, and we're already in our positions. Luckily I am on the other side of Mr. Harold, not right in front of him.

They are all there. And they are looking at me. There is no "Happy Birthday." No well-wishes. Just a deathly silence, then laughter. A single, massive laugh that explodes and strikes me full force. My eyes land on the stage at the back of the hall. And I see. There is a grotesque, inflatable replica of an obese body, adorned with an approximate brown wig and a dress identical to mine. A twisted golden cardboard crown is perched askew on its head. And on the crown, written in large letters: "QUEEN OF THE WHALES."

He acts like his father, badass and all, but he's also a softy inside. "Yes, Chlo-bear?" Langston asked, finally holding a spoon. "Don't Chlo-bear me. What were you doing?!" I said in gritted teeth, "Why is our son covered with Chocolate Icecream?!" Langston's eyes widened when he saw Charlie, "Whoa, what's your costume?" Charlie grinned, showing off some of his missing teeth, "I'm Ice Cream Man! Rawr!" A what now? "Charlie!" Our head turns towards Vanchel, Ivan and Archie's little angel.

I looked up—and my mouth dropped open. He was wearing a full-on green frog costume, with a crooked gold crown glued between the bulging eyes on his oversized frog head. "What are you wearing?" I snorted, blinking at him in disbelief. He croaked like a frog and hopped toward me, then he began singing, and dancing off key, while kicking his legs like some backup dancer who never got any trainings. "Sha la la la la… don’t be scared! I’m just a frog with messy hair… go on and laugh… kiss the frog!" he sang loudly.

I quickly slipped into the clown's costume which was a whacky, rainbow coloured outfit with frills at the end of the sleeves and pants. The makeup artist coloured my face with white paint and a bright, red ball was fixed on my nose. He pulled my hair into a right bun, setting it neatly with hairspray. My skin felt chalky, my head hurt for the tightness of the bun and the ridiculous clothes were itchy. Still, I felt like I was on top of the world.
