The nearest drone shifted, its arm unfolding into a rotating blade that caught the lamplight.
“On my mark,” Jun whispered.
But before he could speak again, one of the drones lunged.
The sound was mechanical and wet at once — the screech of servos, the slap of water as it crossed the flooded floor. Jun fired once, the shot echoing in the confined chamber. The bullet hit the drone’s shoulder, sparking a burst of orange light, but it didn’t fall. It kept moving, relentless, mechanical joints shrieking.
