The leaf shimmered once, and the ears vanished. He looked around, cheeks puffed in embarrassment. Good. No witnesses. Not even that creepy vending machine ghost. Aria was about to give up when she heard Morgan call from the other side of the room. She looked over to where his voice came from and rounded various shelves of books. In his hand was a large brown book with gold leaf that had mostly faded. The book was torn at the binding and some pages were slipping loose. Morgan set it down on a nearby table and opened it. On the first page Aria could see was a drawing of a human with what looked like dragonfly wings. What is this? “A book about mystical creatures.” He turned the page, “I’ve never seen this before.”

One was strapped to a table with its chest open and a large gem hovering over the open wound. As for the other, that was Murloc Archmage Anderson standing over the table chanting an incantation. At the center of the room rested a massive silver mural covered partially by torn cloth. Kael pulled the covering away slowly. Aria froze instantly. The mural showed the original founders surrounding the Heart ritual chamber. And beside them— Stood the First Sovereign. Not imprisoned. Crowned. Aria stared at the image in shock. Kael’s voice lowered quietly behind her. “She was never their enemy.” Another pulse erupted through the sanctuary. This one stronger than all the others. The archive walls cracked violently while silver light exploded through the hidden chamber. Then every symbol inside the vault suddenly activated at once.

said Aislin. “Why did they kidnap you, Muriel?” I asked. Muriel smiled thinly at me. “It’s my unicorn horn, I’m afraid. It’s the key component in the Lycan ritual that Lothair is trying to perform.” My eyes widened as the puzzle pieces clicked together. “Oh.” Wouldn’t that mean they’d have to… kill Muriel? Fear bolted across my face. “Catrina talked about having connections in dragon clans,” said Gavin. “It’s still possible to mark another shifter without them being your fated mate, if Catrina were to become Lycan.”
