Hugo styled his hair with gel and just put on some powder so he doesn’t look oily. After them were the freshmen students then the rest of the High School department. Another marching band from the College department followed them. After that were the College students. Every year they have a theme that they will follow for their performances. This year, emphasis was given on mother nature. The Elementary department wore costumes like flowers, trees, rocks, clouds and others. The High School department and College department would perform tribal dances. So they were wearing traditional tribal clothes and props. After the last student, another band followed but without the majorettes.

Zach and Emily stopped at a local bar and grill on their way back into town. It was time for dinner and neither wanted to go home and cook. “Oh, look.” Emily pointed to the poster that was stuck to the announcement wall. Zach took two steps backward and looked at the picture she was pointing to. “It’s the band that played at the school dance. ” Zach looked more closely at the picture and now recognized the group. “Yeah, they played the eighties stuff, right?”

I let him tug me toward the field—toward the banners, the floating balloons shaped like the university crest, the gaudy tents stocked with pastries from bakeries only rich donors could afford. The marching band formed a perfect arc around the central stage, horns gleaming under the afternoon sun. Drums thundered rhythmically, vibrating the ground beneath my shoes. Cheerleaders flipped into the air in synchronized bursts of glittering gold. A giant screen displayed highlights of the school’s achievements—old buildings, alumni founders, charity events. It was flashy. Dramatic. Excessive. Exactly the type of thing the Milestone college would be centered in. Students pressed forward, buzzing wit

Camille was lost. Not exactly, since this was not a city or even a theme park. But the hall was large enough to hold a large number of people, and it was hard to distinguish faces in this room. The lavish costumes confused her eyes, and the sparkles from their masks blinded her for a moment when the lights shone on them. The band was still playing romantic music, but it took on a more seductive tone, an instrumental that sang temptation in the air. The couples on the dance floor were dancing much closer and more intimately, and the atmosphere was charged with a different kind of energy than before.

Never in a million years could she have imagined that she'd step into the shoes of a real princess. Marco took Sabrina's hand and led her down the steps toward the center of the room. Music began to play from a small band in the corner. There were flute players, trumpets, trombones and violins. Sabrina recognized the sound immediately. It was the same band that Marco had played for her at the hotel in New York. “Will you do me the honor of a dance?” he asked Sabrina. The crowd made way, giving the two of them space in the room. Sabrina, not one for dancing but only because she didn't know how, decided that if there was ever a time for her to expand her horizons it was right then.

I absolutely hated knowing she would always and forever more be leery of me. “That’s right,” she answered Rush. “I’m Avery. You guys are in the marching band with Reuben, right?” Her gaze flittered uneasily my way as if she wanted to be polite and include me in the conversation but she didn’t really want to talk to me at all. “Yep,” Rush answered easily. “Drums,” he added, pointing to himself. Then he motioned to me. “Tuba.” She laughed as if delighted. “Do you always say the instruments you play in place of your names when introducing yourselves?”

Then the music start. They were playing a BTS song, it seems like the Korean boyband had taken the whole Chestnut high schoolers by storm, the crowd went wild. They imitated the song's choreography almost to the T except for the singing parts because none of the dancers were singers. It was a grandiose performance nonetheless, especially for high school students. They made their own choreography for the singing parts and it worked really well.
