I watched his face, preparing myself for the casual mention of a spouse that would officially shut the door on whatever foolish hope I had harbored. But Nathan’s smile faded. A quiet, heavy sadness crossed his green eyes, making him look suddenly tired, stripped of his usual easy charm. He looked down at his boots, running a hand through his hair.

Emma was pregnant. My mind raced, thinking back to moments I hadn’t paid enough attention to. The way she’d tried to talk to me, the way she’d seemed quieter, more hesitant. She must’ve wanted to tell me, and I’d been too distracted, too caught up in taking care of Ava, to notice. Then I felt it. Regret. I was the worst husband ever. I was the shittiest person to her while she carried my child. Our child. How many times had I brushed her off? How many times had she tried to share something important with me, only for me to dismiss her?

I threw the phone at the wall in a fit of rage. Even if I tried to to deny it, it was clear that he still had something for her. I was the only fool who haboured a useless hope to finally gain my husband's love. Everything was just a lie and I refused to see it. I cried into the pillow until it was soaked in tears. My hopes and dreams were shattered and my future was uncertain. With Anna’s return, what would happen to our marriage. Would Murcus leave me for her? All those questions tortured me to sleep.

Nathan continued staring at the letters. At the evidence. At the proof. Then he laughed. A broken sound. One completely devoid of amusement. “Oh God.” The words escaped him quietly. Almost painfully. And suddenly I understood. He hadn’t known. Not even a little. His eyes remained fixed on the papers. “When she stopped responding, I assumed she changed her mind.” Confusion crashed into disbelief. “What are you talking about?” Nathan finally looked up. And for the first time since I had known him— I saw genuine regret.

"We should look ahead. But if you're still upset, it's okay to let it out too. I'll always support whatever you choose to do—whether it's right or wrong." Jane hugged her. "You really are the best, Charlotte." At the Jackson family's residence. Nathan had a rare day off and was playing chess with Calvin. After winning another round, the old man said, "You've got a murderous aura today." Nathan looked calmly at him and asked, "Are you hiding something from me?"

When he spoke again, his voice was cold and controlled. “You need to stay calm. Act like the worried mother. Don’t say anything stupid. We’ll figure this out. But Taylor… this was reckless. We can’t afford mistakes like this again.” Taylor pressed her back against the cold wall, breathing hard. “I know. I’m sorry. I just… I saw them all happy together and I lost it. Camille acting like the perfect wife, Roderick treating her like she’s everything… It made me sick.” Nathan sighed heavily. “Just keep it together. We’ll talk more when you’re alone. Don’t do anything else stupid.”
