At the speed of light she jerked herself up and hurried to ask, “Can I see him now?”

My heart pounded in my chest as I braced myself for what was coming, my silence urging him to continue. “Your husband sustained several serious injuries in the accident. Multiple fractures in his ribs, a punctured lung, and some internal bleeding that we were able to control during surgery. But…” he paused briefly, pressing his lips together before continuing, “he also suffered a traumatic brain injury that has left him in a medically induced coma.” “Coma?...” I blurted out in shock, my jaw dropping. "Your husband is in cardiac arrest and we are trying to save him. So please be patient." Suddenly my legs went limp when I heard the nurse's statement. Cardiac arrest?
