The streets were littered with burning vehicles and mangled corpses missing a limb or two, and zombies swarmed the streets in hordes. Our gunshots attracted the wave of zombies almost immediately, and tens of thousands of bloodshot eyes turned toward us before beginning to surge in our direction. "Get in the car!" Papa yelled, shielding me as we rushed toward several Jeeps parked by the roadside. These vehicles had been specially modified and were welded with thick steel plates, and these were all of Papa's doing, showing the extent of his power. While everyone else was still risking their lives for a bite to eat, he was already building and using weaponry instead.

He nodded, but the doubt still lingered in his chest. Amira stared happily at the ’78 Ford F-150 parked just outside the motel. She clenched the keys in her hand as she tossed her backpack in the front seat. She took notice of several suitcases, especially a rather large black one that an instrument usually sits in in the bed of the truck. I could go a long way without fuelling though, which was what I wanted. I spent a fair bit of time back at the farm which was still in the family and on one walk around I stumbled across the old 1937 Chevy pickup which I was driving the day I met Wendy. Back then there was no trade in on a new car so when a farm vehicle was replaced it was just parked under a tree or next to a barn to rust in peace. The Chevy was definitely rusty, Gippsland is not a dry environment, but it seemed to be recoverable and complete so I had it carted back to a factory I owned in Box Hill, Melbourne.
