Seeing them together like this, safe and whole, made every sacrifice worth it. After a few minutes, Nolan managed to ease himself onto the couch, the kids piling on either side of him. “So, what have I missed while I’ve been away?” he asked, his tone light but with an undercurrent of emotion. Liam’s face lit up. “Mia made a drawing of the whole family! You have to see it, Dad.” Mia nodded eagerly, already scrambling to grab her sketchbook from the nearby table. She returned in record time, flipping to the page where she’d drawn a stick-figure family—me, Nolan, Liam, and herself, all holding hands under a bright, cartoonish sun.

Her cheeks were pink as she walked over to me. “Papa,” she whispered shyly. “I made something.” My heart squeezed at the tentative way she said it, as if she wasn’t sure how I’d react. I set my book aside and opened my arms. “Can I see?” She climbed into my lap, unfolding the paper with trembling fingers. What she revealed nearly undid me. It was a drawing of the four of us, Noah, me, Luca, and Emilia, all holding hands beneath a bright sun. She’d drawn our home in the background, surrounded by flowers and smiling clouds. At the top, in wobbly letters, she’d written: My Family.

With that thought, I brought out my favorite book and started drawing. In the picture, I drew a family, one that was everything I had ever wanted. The parents were kind, supportive, and had smiles that never faded. The children were all happy and carefree. And, of course, I drew myself in the picture too, a happy little girl surrounded by love and warmth.

"This is you mom!" I look at the drawing of me and it's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. I can't help but laugh. "It's... Beautiful," I lie. "Yeah," he smiles. "As beautiful as you." As beautiful as me??? That's how beautiful I am??? I can't help but chuckle. I look at the drawing again and I see a sketch of a house beside a woman and man holding a kid. "Baby? Who are those?" "This is my dad here and then you, mommy. And then right in the middle is me. A happy little family."

(Olivia's POV) My fingers trembled as I held up Lily's Amusement Park Family Drawing. The childish strokes depicted the three of us—Lily in the middle, holding both our hands at the Moonlight Fair. Her stick-figure smile stretched across half her face, radiating the pure joy she'd imagined experiencing with her father. "This was her dream," I whispered, my voice breaking. "To spend just one day with both her parents. To feel like a normal family."

I watched Chase sit down on the floor, take off his shoes neatly, and pull out the drawing. “You want to see?” I knelt beside him, taking it with gentle hands. It was messy. Uneven. Bright. Three stick figures. One tall and angry-looking, one smiling with glasses, and a kid in between holding both their hands. “What’s this?” I asked, throat tightening. “That’s you,” he said, pointing to the smiling one. “And that’s Lucian. You’re both… my family now.” I stared at it for a long time before placing it aside and pulling him into my lap.

Whether it was school events or homework, he was also there to cheer him through soccer practice. “Daddy, look!” Saben called one afternoon, holding up a drawing he had made of their family. It was a colorful crayon illustration of Saben, Sabrina, Benedict, and their dog, Max, standing in front of a big house. “What’s this?” Benedict asked, kneeling beside him. “It’s us,” Saben said proudly. “We’re a happy family.” Sab ben gazed lovingly at his father as he clamped his small arms around Benedict's neck, unaware of the storm raging in his father's heart. "I love you, Daddy," Saben said into his father's chest, his voice muffled.

His father said making him confuse. "Huh? Daddy, are we rich now?" Lucas asked. "Why did you draw a family Luccie?" His father said. "Teacher said, i should draw what my heart desires. So, i drew a family. See, you are happy, Mama is here too and I'm happy having you two closes to me. You always wanted to be rich, see we are rich here, we have a big mansion too." Lucas pointed at everything at picture. His father's eyes were leaking tears non-stop.

I answered. “Then what is it?” he probed and I took a few steps forward, placing the drawing on his desk before I pulled away. “What is this?” He asked as he picked it up and looked at Penelope's drawing before he stared at Carter's. “The children and I decided to draw today. Penelope drew what she thinks is a family portrait of us. She thinks I'm part of your family…that I can replace her mother.” I explained and Mr. Ford's eyes darkened.
