The morning sun climbed higher and the light through the window turned from pale to gold. "Can I ask you something?" I said. "Anything." "The first time you ever did that. Were you nervous?" He set down his fork. "Terrified. I was seventeen. Her name was Claire. We were in her basement. It lasted about thirty seconds." I laughed. "Thirty seconds?" "Maybe less. I was so embarrassed I did not talk to her for a week." "That makes me feel better." "Good. First times are always awkward. That is the point. They are not about being perfect. They are about being new."

My life slowly came back on track as I resumed my classes for the final year exams and was working hard to manage everything. I used to write short stories for the website when Warren approached me through an email to write a book that he will publish. I was not sure if I was good enough to be published, but Warren showed great confidence in me. The first story I wrote was about the hardships my grandmother faced. It was a tragic story of a selfless woman who killed herself to save her daughter from the clutches of the brothel and the sad reality of women in the eighties.

Man, I sure do miss them. Long nights tend to remind me of our first home, where I grew up. Where I had my first shift as a werewolf, where I first hunted for blood, other than that it was the most normal feeling I ever had, I was only sixteen back then. The years after were difficult, we had to change home from time to time. City after city, state after state.

I do know that I wouldn't be where I am today without the incredible woman who dropped so suddenly into my life, a woman I met the fall of my second year at college. I owe her so much.
