“Then you’ll be the one holding the biggest story of the decade. I guarantee it. Trust me, Adrian—wait and you’ll see.” He studied me, leaning back in his chair, hands clasped loosely on the table. His expression softened slightly, though his gaze remained intense. “Fine,” he said finally. “I’ll wait. But not forever. You have 48 hours. The window of decision exists for you to choose between two options. You must select the story release date within forty-eight hours or I will publish my content at my chosen timing. I blinked. My stomach tightened. “Forty-eight hours,” I repeated, letting the weight of the words settle. “Understood.”

Just like the ones that Granny used to tell stories about. “I’m Time.” He bowed his head while answering me. Time? What in the freaking world does he mean by time? I cocked my head and looked him over. “What do you mean, Time? Like, in look at the time, I’m late, that time?” I couldn’t comprehend what he was telling me.

Unknown time until everything changes. The countdown has begun.

Dr. Kade’s POV Time had always been a strange thing. People spoke about it as though it were something simple, something they could measure with the movement of a clock hand or the changing position of the sun. They said time healed wounds, revealed secrets, changed people, and eventually brought every hidden truth to light. But I had learned that time did something far more dangerous than that. Time forced people to make decisions. And once those decisions had been made, there was no way to escape the consequences that followed.

Maybe it’s my handsome face that attracts my patients to spend time here.” René snorted faintly at the doctor’s confident words. “I’ll see you again if my issue gets worse. You have to spare your time for me,” he said.

The message read, “How’s hope? I bet you didn't see me today. Don't blame me, I was caught up with work. I'll make out time for us to meet. How about a coffee at the Louis coffee shop tomorrow by 5:30 pm? Don't be late. I love you, Elena.” I was thrown into a state of confusion. Who was this anonymous? How does he know my baby's name? I couldn't get the answers I was searching for. All I had to do was close my eyes, try to push the thoughts aside and wait for the next day.

At the product launch, I stood on stage and gave my speech. "Violence is never your fault. You don't need to wait for a confession from your abuser. Reading the countless comments from children who had been encouraged by my story, I saw my younger self in every one of them. I truly believed they would be just like me. They wouldn't wait for pity or sympathy from anyone. Instead, they would learn to stand tall and walk, step by step, toward their own future. No longer would they allow themselves to be trampled—not this time.

I shrug off his comment. "Next question Jessa. When will you share my bed again?" Every night Braxius has been teaching me the sword and every night he's been asking me the same question. "When I'm ready," is what I've been replying to him. "Okay," is always his answer. It is getting harder and harder to tell him "no," but he's already hurt me once. Until we both lay back on the bed without discussing it and fell asleep still holding hands. The alarm went off at ten. Two hours until the press conference. Two hours until we burned it all down and prayed it was enough.
