Eclipse of the Dead
When he pulled back, his gaze met mine, and I could see the love and determination in his eyes.
“I love you,” he said softly.
“I love you too,” I replied, my voice steady despite the tears welling in my eyes.
He pulled me closer, tucking my head under his chin as we settled into the cot. His hand rested against the small of my back, his touch grounding me in a way nothing else could.
As I lay there, wrapped in his arms, I felt a sense of peace that I hadn’t felt in what seemed like forever. The cure was complete, the future uncertain, but in that moment, none of it mattered.
