The ring that was initially meant for Bella but ended up on Sydney's finger. The ring lost all significance to me since that day three years ago, which was supposed to be one of the happiest days of my life. My bride was not Bella, the woman I loved, but Sydney, her sister. I felt like such a fool back then, standing in front of the congregation like nothing was wrong. I put on a bright smile and joined the group of six. “What are you doing here?” My mother asked through gritted teeth. My smile didn't waver. I simply pulled her in for a hug that was sure to make her more annoyed. “I didn't realise I wasn't allowed to attend my own sister's wedding?” I said still smiling. Said sister was glaring at me so I took it as an opportunity to also pull her in a bone crushing hug, making sure my jewelry of choice was in her line of sight before my body collided with hers.

Jennifer chuckled a bit, sliding of the discussion, as they spent the next hour laughing and chatting, Erica's gaze finally fell on her sister's hand, her eyes widened in surprise. "Is that an engagement ring ? " Jennifer's gaze moved to her hand, how was she going to explain this? She quickly looked away, acting nonchalant. "I'll explain it all once you get better Erica." She replied, cupping her sister's face in her palm.

“You told me I can end this whenever I want, right?” His jaw clenched, but he nodded once. My fingers trembled as I slid the ring from my finger. The weight of it was heavier than I’d ever realized. I pressed it into his palm and forced the words out, my voice raw. “I do.” Then I walked past him, out of the house, out of the mess, out of everything. Or at least, that’s what I told myself.
