One more turn and the tunnel spat me out into a cavern straight out of a nightmare storybook. Cauldrons bubbled over blue fire that didn’t crackle. Shelves of jars full of eyes and tongues and things that still moved. Black candles floating in midair. A circle of runes glowing violet on the floor. Crystals the size of my head pulsed like hearts. Empty. “Hello?” My voice echoed back at me, mocking. “Sorceress Morgana?” I called louder. “I’ve come to bargain!” Nothing. I took one cautious step. Then another. My boots echoed too loud.

The chamber was filled with sparkling stalactites, their crystalline beauty illuminated by a beam of sunlight streaming through a narrow opening in the ceiling.
