I'm still adjusting to her sudden presence and bubbly personality when a quiet knock on the door introduces me to her twin brother, Ethan. He remains standing by the door with a teddy in his hand observing me with curious honey brown eyes so I say, “You must be Ethan. It's nice to meet you! Come over and sit besides me.” “It's nice to meet you too,” he says quietly as he walks to the bed and climbs onto it. His cute manners makes me smile widely. “And Emile,” I make sure to not say Emily, “I'm doing fine, thanks for asking. I'm Nova and yes, I am the new nanny. I'm here to take care of both of you and help Mrs Jenkins find her glasses.”

She hated the sight of her elder daughter’s face. Camryn took after her parents’ strengths. She resembled both her father and Mrs. Newman, but somehow, Mrs. Newman would not love her. As the nanny had taken care of Camryn for a long period, she had grown attached to Camryn. She was worried that Mrs. Newman would suddenly lose her temper and kick Camryn to death. The middle-aged nanny stopped her boots on the wooden planks. She slowly turned around to face us, a cold, calculating look taking over her eyes. She was holding a heavy silver platter in her hands, and resting right in the center of the tray was a tall glass filled with a dark, stained drink, looking as if she were taking it to go give to one of the high-ranking warriors in the house. She let out a soft, mocking hum and began walking back toward our position, her hips swaying slowly.

Chloe rolled her eyes in a not so childish manner. "Go to your room, Chloe," the butler said calmly. Chloe pouted, "Daddy said he doesn't need a nanny again so I don't want one." Oh no, sorry princess but I'm not losing my job, she taunted mentally while observing the scene unfolding before her. "Your dad asked me to get a new nanny before he gets back," the butler tried desperately to explain. "I'm gonna call daddy right now and have him fire her butt." Natalie looked surprised when the kid pulled out her iPhone—the latest model—and proceeded to call her father.

I introduced a small smile on my face. Pulling at her pink striped green-colored uniform, her dark eyes met mine. I didn't expect to see what I saw in her eyes. The guarded look she stared at me with. Jesus, she was just four. “Hi,” her voice was soft and silvery, almost like she never used it. And she was so pretty, adorable with that cute bow tucked into her lush brown hair. She must have gotten the hair color from her mom. I smiled. “I'm Emily, your new nanny. It's nice to meet you.” I told her. She blinked, eyes staring at me with uncertainty. She didn't even smile back. Suddenly, she pushed and took a step away from me, further into the room.

I couldn't go back to Nana empty-handed. I stopped by a small, independent street cart and used some of the very last coins in my pocket to buy a small brown paper bag of fresh plums and apples. It wasn't much, but it was something. When I pushed open the door to Nana’s small, temporary room, the familiar scent of old lavender and worn linen instantly washed over me, soothing the raw edges of my nerves. She was sitting in her rocking chair, a faded blanket over her lap. "Look at you," Nana breathed, her eyes lighting up the moment she saw me. "You look like you've been dragged through a thorn bush, Hazel."

I said to them. They stood up and followed me. I go first because I don't want to show my daughter my little jealousy against her dad. So, I adjusted my emotions before dealing with them. "Nanny.
