“You’re trembling,” he noted, reaching for her hand. Their fingers intertwined, shadows and fire coiling together like twin serpents. “The bond will hold you. Focus on me. Nothing else matters.”
Aria nodded, but the whispers didn’t stop. Some names felt familiar… like fragments of faces she’d seen in dreams. “It’s like the Hollow is still alive,” she said, voice tight. “Trying to… pull me in, erase me.”
Kael’s jaw clenched. “It’s protective. The Hollow gave up some of its memory to hide you. But every spell leaves a trace. You’re hearing that trace.”
