The fire sputtered, dimmed—and then Nalia screamed with effort, pushing her arms outward as flames spiraled into her skin and shot upward in a burst of controlled inferno.
“Whoa,” Ben muttered, shielding his face. “She nearly flash-fried me.”
Chelsea stood beaming. “She’s almost ready.”
Nalia panted, smoke curling from her fingers. “That felt... insane.”
“That was just the warm-up,” Chelsea said.
Far above the mortal world, in a realm untouched by time, the gods watched in a pool of swirling silver mist within the Sacred Temple.
