Nico knows he has no say because his Capo spoke and it is killing him.” Dario says and slowly stands to get up. “I should go get Nico,” he says, then a few minutes later his Bugatti started up and sped after his angry brother.

Because if he does, your pretty little hands would be stained red. And Dante can’t stand the thought of that. So he’ll sit in that car, burning, while you laugh with me.” I looked up at him, another laugh slipping free, sweeter, softer, honed to perfection. Innocent on the surface, but sharpened just enough to twist the knife.

It’s hard to tell for sure in the dim light. “Is it all there?” the stranger asks, the question directed at his men rifling through the eight bags at his feet. “It’s all there, boss,” one of them confirms with a tip of his head. Nico stands still, hands clasped in front of him as he stares ahead at his client. The other man nods, jaw ticking as he holds Nico’s gaze for a beat too long which would make any normal person uncomfortable. But Nico isn’t a normal person—he’s a psychopath incapable of feeling an ounce of emotion. His large hand came down in sharp, stinging smacks—ten of them—until her skin glowed pink and she was dripping down her thighs. “Count them, princess,” Dante had growled, fingers teasing her soaked folds afterward. “And thank your Daddy for correcting you.” She came on his fingers while sobbing the words. Now, on the fifth morning, Nico summoned her to the library. The room was breathtaking—floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, a massive mahogany desk, and leather sofas facing the ocean view. Nico sat behind the desk in a crisp black shirt, sleeves rolled up to reveal powerful forearms and tattoos. Dante leaned against the bookshelf, arms crossed, watching her with hungry eyes.

Nico looks up at me, half bent over as he cradled the baby close to him as she screams in terror, the noise hurting her despite him having covered her ears. "Run! I can't fight it, it's too strong!" He pleads with me, gritting his teeth as just speaking hurt him more than he cared to admit. He was being domineered, forced to bow. And he feared the man capable of such raw power. They all did. But I know better than to fear the beast. "LANA!" The mighty roar sounds again, this time he was in human form. I look down at Nico. Silently cursing the gods for making Angel so damn smart. Of course he would figure out where I am, despite covering my scent and tracks.

Ace's POV All I could hear were my footsteps as I tiptoed cautiously down the stairs into the basement. I held on to the handrail for dear life, careful not to slip and fall. Angel was preoccupied with her whacky reality shows in the living room. “Rest in peace, partner!” I muttered in my breath as I crossed out a portrait pinned on my drawing board. It was of a man that Marco and the team just assassinated. Him and a few others on my board were linked to my parents’ untimely demise, and I had sworn to take them out one after the other.

Why are they staring at me like I’m the solution to their dilemma? Minutes crawl by. My heartbeat hammers in my ears. Finally, Nico breaks his stare and turns sharply to Luca. He gives him a glare that isn’t quite vicious. There’s an easy familiarity there. A bond between them. I can swear they’re friends. “Mess this up one more time, and I swear, I’m getting you fired,” Nico growls. Without another word, he takes my hand, guiding me through the club, leaving Luca’s stammered “thanks” behind.
