OCTAVIA'S POV The sound of the doorbell startles me away. Rose and I had fallen asleep in the middle of the movie. I look at the wall clock; it is twenty minutes last eleven. Who would be knocking on my door this late in the night? The doorbell rings again. Why is the person so inpatient? I check to see the person outside through the intercom. Nile's face came into view. I pressed the button and told him I'd be out in a minute. I walked into my bedroom to put on a robe over my pajamas. I opened the door but stepped out before he could come in. Rose is asleep in the living room, and I wouldn't want us to wake her.

“Uhm… oh, I meant I have things to do, so I don’t have a particular day.” Just then, I immediately walked out the door, heading down through the elevator, It was almost 12 AM, and Rose would take over her body soon, I had only a limited time to enjoy myself. FUCK!! I took a cab and went back home, sneaking inside quietly, I didn’t want that bitch’s parents asking useless questions but fortunately or unfortunately the motherfucking asshole of their daughter Rose couldn’t wait, taking over her body before I could even drop my bag. My heart was beating so fast I was sure they could hear it over the low thrum of music. "Gentlemen," Lorenzo began, his voice carrying that smooth authority that made people listen whether they wanted to or not. "I'd like you to meet Ellie Knight." He paused, and I felt his eyes on me even though I was staring at my hands folded in my lap. "She's officially a Black Rose now, under our protection." The words settled over the table like a heavy blanket. I didn't know what being a Black Rose meant, but from the way the three strangers straightened in their seats, it was clearly something significant. Something that changed how they looked at me.

"Mickey, you're finally here. I was so scared. I had another nightmare. Tell me—tell me I escaped. Tell me I wasn't violated, right?" She clutched at him, desperate for reassurance. Her doe-like eyes shimmered with fear. Mickey wrapped her in his arms and gently stroked her back. "You got away. No one laid a finger on you. Don't be afraid, Rose. I'm here." Rose? “Alpha Higgins, good morning. Ty is just getting ready for the day. He should be down soon. Would you like to come in and have a coffee while you wait?” Rose’s heart was in her throat. She had to play Luna to a man she’d been raised to fear. He’d hurt her to get to her father. That’s what her father always said. She was supposed to stay away from her.

That in a few minutes, she would wake up and discover that The Business Awards was still days away and she was so excited that her mind couldn’t stop with the dreams. Maybe she would wake up and discover that she was still working at Sage Poll Inc. But Rose knew that this was real life because she had never felt this bad in a nightmare. Victor was married? So everything Wayne said had been true. Wait, according to Wayne, his name wasn’t even Victor. What was it again? Wayne had mentioned it that day in her office. Nigel? Nicholas? Nathan.
