Lucy's pov; I couldn't fall asleep no matter how hard I tried, so I sat by the window and gazed at the night sky filled with different patterns of stars. Among them, the north star was shining brightly in the sky as if it was speaking to me. I never thought my life would become a mess like this.

The dozen went inside and August closed the hatch behind them, peering through the slats at the village as it burned. He saw a few of the beasts lurking in the night, but they stayed well away from the flames and did not come their way either. August also beheld a human form out there amongst them and his heart raced, but soon fell. He’d thought this man a stray soldier they’d lost, or a villager out running in his heavy over cloak, but neither theory proved accurate. This man stood very tall, but not as big as the hairy giants. Harriet shoved her hands deep into her trouser pockets as she walked to the cementry. The sky above her cleared because of the moon, which accompanied her there, smiling as if assuring her that what she was about to do was good and super perfect and she didn't have to worry. The stars glitter, twinkling every time she raises her head to marvel at their beauty, as if they were her security. The fear she was feeling had already subsided, and she felt a little better.

Above his head, the twinkling stars adorned the canvas of the night sky, oblivious to the horrors unfolding below. Their beauty, a stark contrast to the grotesque scene beneath them, seemed to mock the savagery of his actions.
