I had drunk several bottles of mineral water while on the bus. Therefore, I felt the urge to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. When I groggily opened my eyes, I noticed that Kathleen wasn't in bed. On my way to the bathroom, I passed by the living room and saw a dim, red light flickering from the room next door. It was just the two of us at home—could Kathleen be in there? If it was her, what was she doing there this late at night?

My new books were stacked on the bedside table, ‘The Lycan Chronicles’ sitting on the top. Suddenly, it hit me. Somehow, I had slept through the entire ride home. And I had even slept through Nicholas carrying me to bed.

I managed to throw my legs over the edge of the bed and I peeked at the clock with one eye. 9 o'clock. My eyes went to the two plates again. Lunch and dinner. It was already dawn when Adrian and I went back after our interaction with Samael. I had slept the entire day. Well. Minus the pauses where Adrian demanded full attention from my body and mind. A book on the other nightstand made me crawl to the other side of the bed. Pride and prejudice. "Oh my god." I whispered softly to myself. My fingers touched the worn book. This was the book I read on top of Asta with Adrian behind me. He kept it. A small note peeked from the page. I opened the book on that page and read the neatly written words

The book, entitled Olive and The Wishing Star by Jennifer Decker, is indeed very good and suitable for children. Having just read a few pages, Emily was already fast asleep. I kissed his forehead. Covered neatly. Turn off the main light so that only the night light is on, then leave it alone. Night's getting late. The time is already 12:04 PM. I still can't sleep. I took the cell phone which was on the table near the bed. Swipe the screen. It had Stephanie's name on it. No! I can't bother him. Maybe he was having fun with his friends.

Alley POV: I can not get back to sleep. I looked at the alarm clock on my nightstand, 2:00AM ugh honestly? Stephen was snoring next to me and the last thing I wanted to do is wake him up. Quietly I slid out of bed and out the door. Closing it gently so that you couldn't even hear it latch, I made my way to the study. Since I can't sleep I guess I'll start trying to piece everything together. When I entered the study I looked around at the books that had been pulled from the library that were left out. The books had covered the desk, the leather couch and half of the floor. I huffed and sat down behind the desk in the big leather chair. I grabbed the first book my eyes met and read the title.

I want to say "Why", but I don't want to risk sounding like a creep so I whatever her and go back to going through the rest of the shelf even though I'd done that a thousand times before. I drag my hands across the spines of the books; Kara Taylor's Prep School Confidential, Carol Wyer's The Secret Admirer, and Megan Goldin's The Night Swim. You would be subtle to call Rachel a crime-thriller addict - she's more of a crime freak. The Night Swim. There is a piece of paper sticking out of it. I pull it out of the book. Something is scribbled across it in Rachel's handwriting.

"Duly noted, and no snoring, I like having a peaceful night sleep." Nikolai scoffed and turned off the bedside lamp on his side, but I leaned over to switch on mine. I wasn’t ready to sleep yet. My nerves were still buzzing, and I needed something to distract me. To distract me from all this, from Nikolai and his family and my own thoughts. I reached for one of the books I’d brought with me from home. "The Housemaid" by Freida McFadden. The author that Leo and I had talked about during dinner.
