We put out pumpkins and ghost decorations for Halloween, and cornucopias and turkeys for Thanksgiving, and in turn, they close their shops early and keep a quieter pace during the Somber Howl and stay up all night, telling stories of ancestors from long-ago during the Winter Solstice. “Then you can carry them to bed later.” I say with a chuckle as I put my head back down on my forearms that are still resting on my desk. Just… needed to get out.” I gestured toward the stage. “There. That’s the guy.” The Father Christmas act was in full swing now, posing for photos, handing out candy canes, letting tips get tucked into his belt while the crowd cheered. Mr. Harlan turned to look, squinted a little under the strobing lights, then burst out laughing. A real, deep belly laugh that made his shoulders shake.

It was already past six she was nervous. The time seemed to go so slowly. Ivy paced the hallway. She was excited to get started with the trick-or-treating and the fun part of the night. The doorbell rang and she jumped out of my skin. Dave answered the door. Nick was dressed as a dark knight from Star Wars. “You look good,” he said. Ivy laughed out loud, “Yeah, right, you sounded so truthful there. I am underdressed. I guess I'm not really in the spirit this year.”

Jack and Jason glared at Jimmy and Timmy and they shrugged. They all settled for dinner later and Anna refused to talk to Jason, she is still angry at him and he knows. The men came home from wherever they went to and the family Christmas carol started. They sang and danced and it was a merry day. Whenever the whole family gathered around like this during Christmas, it was always so much fun and they all enjoyed it. "Merry Christmas!" Someone shouted outside and they all rushed out to see who, a beautiful lady was dressed as Santa Claus and a boy of nineteen was dressed as an elf.

He lay out invitingly on a wolfskin rug, looking at me forlornly. “I'm cold-” “Don't even start, kid.” “I am not a child,” he said, petulant. “You act like one, Corpseboy.” Hurt marred his face. I swallowed my guilt and looked away: Puck's haphazardly strung Christmas lights formed a rainbow web in the rafters, and a charred hemlock , hung with beer, stood in for the holiday tree. “God, what is this?” I muttered, sneezing at the musty upholstery. Elephant tusks hung on the wall, mounted beside a unicorn horn and what I imagined was a dragon's jaw.

A younger lady asks as we get to the boardwalk leading into their town. “Hello, I am King Brandt, and this.” Before I can continue with my words, she drops to one knee. “King and Queen of the Northern Vampire Kingdom. It is an honor to be before you.” “What is your name?” Elnora asks as she leans down to take the young lady's hand and stand her back up. “My name is Jackie.” Her words are shaky as she speaks. “Are you ok?” Elnora asks again as Jackie looks around uncomfortably. “If you are here, it can only mean one thing.” She whispers. “What do you think we are here for?” I ask her. “You are here to kill the king.” Her words are nearly inaudible.

One of them toppled off of the truck and rolled to where Jake was standing. He took a moment to look at it with its carved out eyes and mouth designed to give a demonic appearance but this looked as if it was grinning at him, mocking him. You fucking idiot! Why do you hate Halloween! Don't worry, the pumpkin didn't speak but it might as well have as Jake looked at it from a different angle and thought it could actually be in a world of pain. One that humans had no idea about. How I miss the days when all you had to worry about was going down some hungry human's throat and now I'm being cut up like a freak!

One student in thick glasses said when Olga and Xavier are already out of their sight. "Don't worry kids, even scums get their time in sun. People like those two kids, and their friends, and everyone who only stand by and watch as they tear through people's emotions will have a debt to pay.
