I snapped my cellphone shut and looked back at Liam. “The whole weekend? I don’t get to sleep for the whole weekend?” he whined, as soon as I had shut my phone. “Sorry, but I couldn’t say no. Her parents are going away for the weekend and she doesn’t want to stay on her own.” I looked at him apologetically. He sighed looking defeated. “OK sure. But you do know you’ve just agreed to watch a scary ass zombie flick and I’m not going to be there for the next two nights,” he stated with a cocky grin.

I said, inching closer to the spot close to him, at the same time, trying my best to avoid Shawn's eyes. “Marcus.” He offered his hand casually. “One of the pack’s betas.” I shook it, surprised by the warmth of his grip. He smiled again, wider this time, one of his cheeks dented with a dimple. His eyes flicked briefly between Shawn and I, like someone who just noticed something. Whatever he noticed, made his grin falter just slightly. Not disappearing, just… adjusting. That's when I look at Shawn, his face masked in a scowl. He didn't say anything or do anything, but the air became a bit stuffy, even though we stood in the well ventilated hallway with tall, open windows.

The edges of her vision began to fray, dissolving into a thick, unstoppable black mist as the sheer exhaustion of the night finally caught up to her. As her head rolled back against the leather headrest and darkness completely swallowed her consciousness, the last thing she heard was the frantic, deeply worried vibration of his voice echoing through the quiet cabin. Eyes unblinking, still moving around him, Tancorix said, “Gorias didn’t . . . well, in death that is . . . no one lives forever . . . ” Tired of her talking, Mosnar charged at her once more. Tancorix returned his smile, slashing the wrist of the hand that clutched her ankle. Blood flew as her blade tore his flesh. Mosnar shrieked and let go, trying to back away, amazed at her bend and dexterity to pull off that shot. The dagger went through his leather wrapped wrist guard, but he was glad to show all that the veins of this wrist were intact.
