“Someone you know?” Mackenzie’s eyes furrow and her lips pucker. “Yes,” I say. “That someone was the one who helped us get in here, who referred and hired Uma, the doctor, the ones who made our romantic dinner the other night and Angelie.” Mackenzie becomes deliberately silent when Angelie rides on a boat. They wave their hands while smiling at each other. Once the boat’s engine rumbles through the peaceful air, Mackenzie turns to me with a face prepared for clarifications.

Nikki and Mavy huddle around Gabe. “There’s already a few men here I wouldn’t mind getting under tonight!” Nikki said. A group of men turn toward her and she flushes. Instead of turning and hiding in embarrassment, she holds their gaze and smirks at them.
