Most of them looked around my age, young, frightened, and uncertain, eyes wide as they took in the unfamiliar walls around them.
Athena’s eyes widened as she took in each and every one of them, her gaze sharp, assessing them all and curious. Maya crouched beside one of the wolves, her movements careful, almost gentle. There was something familiar in the way she leaned closer, as if she recognized her, or at least sensed something deeper.
