Jax screamed. He hit 'Play' on the tablet. The screen flickered to life. It was a high-angle shot from their home. It showed Cane slumped in his chair, unconscious. Nara was standing over him, her face cold and clinical. She wasn't weeping; she was working.

Like a role I’d been thrown into without rehearsal. Before I could say anything else, a sharp voice from the end of the table cut through the quiet. “Hi, Kira. Right?” Nina said, her tone syrupy sweet, fake to the core. I turned slowly to face her. She was sitting like royalty at the far end of the table, her back perfectly straight, her wine glass untouched but poised between her fingers like a prop. “We met earlier,” she continued, clearly referencing the lunch she so graciously crashed. “Yes,” I said, keeping my voice flat. “I remember.”

However, Pine just smiled as she grabbed the knife that was on the table. "You're here as the representative of the Antro Kingdom, aren't you? What if someone else heard this extremely disrespectful statement? Wouldn't you be making the Antro Kingdom's name bad?" Pine then walked away with the knife she managed to grab, but then stopped and turned around. "Ah! I forgot to turn this knife." Shhh...! BAM!! Pine just threw the knife in his hand. The knife plunged into the table successfully. Pine's target was Rena's hand but she certainly couldn't hurt her. Rena who knew this immediately glared at her but Pine replied with a smile.

Taylor smirked. “Then let’s play something I can play.” Taylor thought for a moment before saying, “Dice, then. It’s easy. If you’ve got hands, you’re qualified. You at least know how to compare totals, right?” I nodded. “That works. Let’s start.” Then, I walked straight to the card table and sat down on the side against the wall. “Oh, Maisie, you’re challenging Taylor at dice? You’ve already lost. Taylor’s the queen of dice. Even the pros can’t beat her.”

It paced inside me, aching to mark her, to claim her as mine. "Ms. Shane, you're a good person!" I finally said, ready to end the game even though my wolf protested. "But you've got the wrong idea. I'm not here on a blind date." Seeing her flush and look embarrassed made me feel something like sympathy. "Yes, this is Table 8. But it's the VIP section's Table 8. Your Table 8 is to the left when you go back out." She basically bolted. The sweet scent that pulled at my soul faded, and my wolf growled low in disappointment.

“That's ridiculous.” “It's fair given how shitty the app is.” “A minute ago you said it was almost perfect.” “I overestimated.” He groans, clearly not paying attention. I'm five seconds away from slamming his head on the table when Nina bolts from her seat. “I need to use the restroom.” She says, voice tight. She can't leave. Not in the middle of a damn negotiation. But when our eyes meet, I know that she will climb over this table or under it. Anything to get away from here.

She’s not going for any kill shots, but she’s certainly making people think twice about fighting her. I pull another nagata off one of the Invictus wolves just as I see two nagata slithering fast upon Jianyu. I start to run to intercept them when suddenly the two nagatas collide with a large, sheer purple wall out of nowhere. I stand there looking stunned as the two nagata lay on the ground groaning with obviously broken noses.

Before Nathan can react, Jade punches him hard. Nathan staggers, grabbing his mouth, blood blooming over his knuckles. “Stop!” Serena screams. “You’re going to hurt him!” But Nathan lunges back at Jade, aiming a fist of his own. It never lands. Jade intercepts him mid-motion, tackling Nathan with the kind of skill you know took years to perfect. Nathan’s body slams into the ground with a sickening thud, his back crashing against the sharp edge of the table leg. The entire table jolts, knocking over a water glass that rolls and falls to the floor, shattering.

One of his friends, a stocky, boisterous alpha Lyn with a loud laugh, nudges Jin and grins. “She’d probably run crying to her parents if she wasn’t so scared.” Lyn snorted, a cruel glint entered his eyes. “We’re going to play a game, little omega.” Jin said with a deceptively soft voice, his face calm and unassuming as he whipped out a Swiss knife from his pocket. “It’s called ‘Skinning the Rabbit’. I’ve always been curious about it, you know?” My heart stuttered at the sight of the knife he held. “Please, Jin don’t do this. You can’t! I won’t let you!” I screamed, struggling at the hands of his friends pinning me to the wall.

By the second window, were two chairs and a round table. Shinja was rummaging the dressing table on the right side of the bed. There was within it combs, glowing hair strands and a few little creatures that had taken refuge in the confined space. It hadn't been that long since she came to this place, she thought to herself but the creatures had been quick to make the place their own.
