Nora Ephron Novel Novels & Stories

Settling on making a quick omelet, I gathered eggs, cheese, and some leftover vegetables. As I whisked the eggs, my mind wandered back to the past couple of days. I wondered if Grace was asleep right now, or sitting up feeling scared and lonely. Tomorrow, I would prepare a meal for her, I decided. And maybe bring her a few of those books I had purchased. “Midnight snack, Kayla?” I jumped at the sound of the voice, nearly dropping the bowl. Turning, I saw Nora leaning casually against the doorway, her arms crossed and a smug smile playing on her lips. She was dressed impeccably, as always, in a silk robe that accentuated her slim figure.

NARRATOR In a gorgeous private restaurant with an incredible view of the city, two people were having lunch at an elegant table for two as they chatted mainly about business. Opposite Rock was a glamorous looking woman, who seemed to be in her early forties. She was no other person but Nora Jones. She was a famous renowned actress and the CEO of Nora cosmetics. She was also the author of Hidden Secrets; The Heart of Man. This is a book that was as widely known as its author.

Nora had closed it deliberately. For about ten minutes they talked about nothing in particular — a mutual friend's new apartment, a show Ashley had started watching and was already three episodes into. Nora ate and let herself just be in the room. Then she set her slice down on the box lid and rubbed her forehead with the back of her hand. Ashley looked at her immediately. "What is it?" "I need to tell you something." Nora kept her eyes on the table. "I got an email today. From the grant."

My throat tightens. “She didn’t have to.” “She made it suggestive,” Nora says. “That’s worse.” I let out a slow breath. “She wants people to fill in the gaps.” “Yes.” “And they will.” Silence settles between us for a moment. “I feel like I can’t breathe” I admit quietly. “Breathe anyway” Nora replies. Her voice softens. “Listen to me, Elena.” I swallow. “She’s building a story,” Nora says. “About you.” I look at the photo again, about me.

I had no idea what to tell her. The masseuse reached for hot stones and placed them one by one down my spine. They were warm, grounding. I needed them more than I thought. “You know I’m not judging you, right?” Nora said after a bit. “I’m just… watching. You’re in a very dangerous love triangle with two very rich, very hot men and I’m just over here eating crab cakes and living vicariously through you.” I snorted. “You were hired to cook the crab cakes. Plus, you have someone… did you get over the flowers so quick?”

Of myself. Nora Sinclair was a contradiction. She talked too much and yet somehow managed to say the things no one else dared to. She was soft and stubborn. Annoying and magnetic. Every time I was around her, I found myself reacting—not calculating. That unsettled me. We closed work early today to prepare for the business trip. She had mountains of paperwork to submit before leaving, and I had more meetings than my calendar could breathe through. But sometime around 4PM, I told everyone to wrap it up. No need to impress me with their loyalty. I didn’t care. They weren’t her.

"They really treat you that badly?" "Worse," Nora muttered, looking down at her hands. But she quickly shook her head, forcing the sad look away. "Anyway, I am not going to ruin a good day by complaining about the Alphas. Besides languages, what else do you do for fun?" "I read," Clara answered, gesturing toward the massive shelves lining the walls. "A lot. Mostly dark romance and mafia thrillers. Anything with a ton of drama and people making terrible decisions." "Shut up," Nora laughed loudly, clapping her hands together. "Are you serious? That is literally my favorite genre! I write short stories sometimes, and they are always packed with completely unhinged mafia bosses and crazy plot tw

I let her be, I actually do have a lot to worry about right now, than a childish banter with Loretta. **** Meanwhile.. Fred. “Fred!” Nora snapped as she barged into my office. I exhaled deeply, still not looking up from my laptop. This isn’t the first time she’s barging into my office and I know she was just here to argue with me. “I just got an email , Love and Laughter?! You agreed to it and didn’t think to tell me?!” She demanded her hands on her waist akimbo. I finally looked up at her, closed my laptop midway and leaned more into the chair.

I was very frustrated and a little worried too for Nora but then again, I am not among those who show their emotions that why I shove her out of my room telling her to find it out herself. Nora.... I hate it how her innocent face flashes before my eyes whenever I close them. How her beautiful smile towards me is fresh in my memory irritates me.... I looked at the packet of cookies Nora brought for me two days back when we made lov- erase fucked each other... Her cookies are very delicious. So extra scrumptious! I took a bite, and they were not soggy so had them with the tea. ____________________ My eyes shot open as my phone continued to ring.
