Lira built a small fire near the doorway while Grayson checked the perimeter.
Nora sat near the flickering light, the shard resting on her lap. It glowed faintly gold, then red, then flickered out.
When she closed her eyes, she saw flashes not visions, but fragments. Kael’s face, blurred and distant; a vast plain of silver light; a shadowed figure standing in a ring of runes, whispering her name.
Then she heard him again.
You shouldn’t be here.
Her heart clenched. “Then where should I be?”
