Chapter 51: The Sovereign Horizon The morning sun came up over the East River. Filled the Brooklyn studio with a nice bright light. This light made the room feel fresh and new. Elena stood by an old oak table. Her hands were flat on the table. In front of her were the real books of the Nora Vale Imprint series. The Nora Vale Imprint series was finally done. The covers of the books were simple and nice to touch. They did not have the pictures that people usually see on digital books.

It rushed up my core and filled my chest, I couldn't contain it and the scream rippled from me in waves as I slammed my fist into the table. “My King?” I stood heaving, trying to control these fucking voices and the screaming but they were multiplying, screaming her name and taunting me with her tortured pleas for help. The door closed behind her and I heard her take a careful step inside. “You called on me,” I turned and looked at Nora. The robe hugged her curves and the heels clicked against the floor. Part of her hair was tied back and the rest of it fell down her back. She scanned my face with worrisome eyes and drew a shaky breath.

“And you know what, she still cares enough about what you think to dig through the dark web and find evidence to prove she’s innocent. I told her to just run—” I take Nora’s face between my fingers, stopping her. “What evidence? What did she find?” Nora sighs and jerks her face away to bend down and grab her bag. “It’s all in here. My laptop and the puzzle codes to get into the dark web.” I take the bag from her and unzip it. “She said there’s enough evidence to clear her name in the computer, and that she even found out where they’re hosting their next auction of wolf souls,” Nora tells me, and I pull out the notebook.

"Okay" Nora said as she nodded her head and went into her space,the first thing she grabbed was her laptop,her files that were in a case on the ground,Carl's Lego's, opening all her bags she took out everything that were in them even the money she had gotten from Dominco that she had tried to spend but haven't gotten the time and gathered them into one bag leaving the rest on the bed, searching around for what she could take,she kept moving around she wanted to take everything, "Nora! “It’s not.” There was a beat. Then another. When she didn’t continue, I scowled. “What are you not telling me?” Nora bit the inside of her cheek, like she was measuring how much she could get away with sharing with me. Then she dug around in her satchel before pulling out an old, leather-bound book. The binding was worn and cracking, and the cover was faded with the crest of House Aurelian. She opened it carefully and turned the pages with a brittle whisper before pausing.

Lira built a small fire near the doorway while Grayson checked the perimeter. Nora sat near the flickering light, the shard resting on her lap. It glowed faintly gold, then red, then flickered out. When she closed her eyes, she saw flashes not visions, but fragments. Kael’s face, blurred and distant; a vast plain of silver light; a shadowed figure standing in a ring of runes, whispering her name. Then she heard him again. You shouldn’t be here. Her heart clenched. “Then where should I be?”

“Hey. I need to know where Alice is. Is she in school today?” “Can't tell you that, sorry.” “Come on. I'm her… friend. Just tell me where she is,” the voice said. “If you're her friend, like you claim to be, you'd know where she is without asking me and disturbing my quiet time,” Nora said, paying no heed to the stranger. “Oh, come on,” the stranger said, pulling the Kindle away from her. “Oh my goodness. Give me back my book right this moment,” she said, turning—finally face to face with the stranger.

He had come, and I had not activated the wire, and now she was asking me if I remembered. I looked down at my lap, my fingers twisting together. “N-no. We went to bed early because the power had gone out.” “I see.” Nora’s face was unreadable. “I think you might want to hear this.” She reached into the folder and pulled out a small audio recorder, setting it on the table between us. The connected call only carried the sounds of Jaime Walter and Derek Surrey’s pleasure. She did not seem to hear what I said. After an impatient click of her tongue, she hung up.
