He glances away from me, looking ahead out the window, I slowly get off the bed and walk over to him, standing next to him but maintaining the necessary space between us. I too look out the window, watching people minding their own business and getting on with their lives , each person passing the next person and just a stranger, not fully aware of what each is going through. It's amazing how it may seem like your life is normal or just going right when in reality you are going through stuff, stuff no one would have imagined one would go through or would survive, that's why the human life is quite a mystery yet amazing to learn.

*** Two hours have passed since I've arrived here, and I can't remember when was the last time I had this much fun. Even though I didn't talk with anyone one on one, I realized that they were very nice and fun people. They only have strict rules but they don't seem to mind. Apparently they do this every month, and even though I'm leaving after a couple months, I'll love to keep coming back to these.

On paper, she's so painfully normal. Maybe that's the problem, she's so clean. A picture retouched until every imperfection is gone. People aren't clean like that, humans especially. Life leaves marks, smudges, cracks. Everything of hers is out there in the open. I don't know, it's just too weird.

“Never mind.” “How do you guys reproduce?” he asked suddenly. “You have enough people to have a whole city.” I stared at him, wondering if his question was a joke. A few seconds passed and he did not laugh. “Sex,” I replied. “Like how every other human reproduces.” “You people are not mutated like in the stories. Maybe a tail sticking out somewhere or an extra finger, you know?” His eyes scanned us. “You guys look normal. Is the apocalypse affecting you at all?”

I need to show to myself that I could want something that wasn't toxic, forbidden and outrightly wrong. My fingers moved before I could overthink it. I typed out "How about today?" but then deleted it because it seemed too eager, too desperate. I tried again with "Today works if you're free?" and deleted that too. I was just thinking about something very perfect, normal and my style. I finally settled on something that felt casual enough. "Hey! Sorry just saw these. Today actually works if you're free? I could use some normal after this crazy week." I hit send before I could think about changing my mind again, and then immediately regretted the very 'normal' comment because what if he asked

“No fanboying. No fangirling. No fox-spiriting. Be normal.” Normal. As if that had ever worked.
