I don’t need distraction for what comes next. The car door opens. The noise is immediate. There's shouting, camera shutters, bright lights bursting in every direction. I step out first. It's instinct. Control the scene before it controls you. I turn and offer Enid my hand. For a moment, she hesitates. Only a second. But I catch it. Then her fingers slip into mine. I help her out, and the flashes intensify. She looks stunned for half a heartbeat, then fixes her posture and head like she was born into this.

I was hysterically trying to unplug the flash drive but Aiden was blocking me from doing it. "Enzo, this is fun, isn't it?" He was so innocent that I couldn't hit his fucking face.
