“And now it’s yours.” She swallows hard. Noah stands close enough to catch her if she sways. Emily shifts into her cat form and hops onto a beam overhead. I take a deep breath. “Today,” I say, “we start with the beginning. The Warren bloodline. The Hallow. And why you were hidden.”

My heart is furiously beating as I type the word nonhuman. Many articles pop up so I just click on the first one. There are so many definitions. Sirens,witches, vampires , demons and yes, Angels are there too. Apparently the term is used to describe people who are not exactly humans, people with unusual gifts or powers. The following article says nonhumans are just a myth and that no such thing exists. One says they were real during the eighteenth century but we're destroyed and are now extinct. I keep on reading and even click on the images. The images are a bit scary and definitely not human. The thought that I could be one of those things is more than scary.

The title was tickling, somewhat queer, strange, and scary. Sumico turned the book back to read the synopsis for a while.

She opened it—pages parting easily now, as though the book recognized her exhaustion and offered no resistance. She flipped past the early chapters she had already memorized. Deeper. Diagrams of binding circles, sigils of domination, lists of names for the restless dead. Zombies—simple thralls of flesh, bound by will alone. Ghouls—carrion-eaters, drawn by hunger, controlled through offerings of meat and bone.

Theresa was old enough to have experience, but looked young enough to please Salem’s eyes—two key requirements for a housekeeper in his home. “Where is Salem now?” I asked. I smacked her shoulder. “Actually, I have a fun take on the Hansel and Gretl fairy tale that I’m working on. It’s from the witch’s point of view.” I pulled out my notebook.
