YONA His eyes pierced through mine, becoming hard specks of ice as he drank me in. My feathers were ruffling in response to his scrutiny, as though trying to reassure him that it was ok. I slowly turned to fully face him, our eyes never leaving each other. Both of our hands moved to our chests, and I knew before I felt it, a soul tie, with Cain. I saw the rejection in his eyes, and felt my heart splinter at the same moment. Of course he wouldn’t be interested in fulfilling this, he had his one true love; a woman I could never compare to nor take the place of. Did I truly expect him to be happy? To fling himself into my arms and whisper sweet nothings in my ear? No. Cain was a man born of vi

All of these incidents were pointing in a single direction, that a new dawn was on its way. Dawn, as it technically means, is the hallmark of the beginning of a new day (A new reformation of everything). People try to ignore it, by plunging it onto the back of their minds, trying to forget, yet in the core of their very beings, they know it is true. The balance which was keeping the world at its bay was so fragile that it could break at any point in time. The barriers that kept the forces in the dark at bay would finally see a crack, and the world would be flooded with its own end.

She lay down, eager to listen. The book he was reading was about a tribal leader in Africa who was prideful of all his achievements and ruled his family with an iron fist. All his achievements, however, came crashing down when the colonial powers entered his village and stripped his people of their dignity, culture and way of life. In the end, the protagonist killed himself out of depression over losing his pride.

The man stammered but was unable to bring out real words. "Get out of my sight!" Mr. Oko yelled and then hissed when he saw the man fall on his way out. "Nawa oo, this country is filled with useless people. At the sight of a gun, they lose their voice. Mtchew. Stupid people. Have they never seen a gun before?" Chinyere wanted to laugh out loud at Mr. Oko's ramble but she held it in when she realised that her father had answered the call.

The courtyard below looked peaceful, but peace was the last thing inside me.
