He was holding it at an odd angle, his brow furrowed in concentration.
“There’s something off about this,” Lucan said, tapping the spine of the book. “It’s too heavy—like there’s something inside.”
Elara crossed the room, her heart pounding. Together, they opened the book, revealing a hidden compartment inside the hollowed-out pages. Nestled within the compartment was a small, ornate key, its surface tarnished with age.
“A key,” Elara whispered, her mind racing. “But to what?”
Lucan studied the key for a moment before glancing around the room. “It has to unlock something in this house. Someplace your father hid the final piece of the puzzle.”
