The relationship between the Locke kids is grittier and more realistic in the source material. They fight, they resent each other, they say cruel things in the wake of their father's death. The TV version smooths over these rough edges to create a more unified, supportive family unit faster. While heartwarming, it loses the painful realism of siblings grappling with shared trauma in different, isolating ways. Tyler's burden as the 'man of the house' is more oppressive and leads to more conflict.
Their journey to becoming a team in the comics feels earned through fire and betrayal. In the show, it sometimes feels like a foregone conclusion.
