Novels For Reading Novels & Stories

Some of them read multiple times judging by the cracking of the binding. History. Military strategy. Economics. Law. Psychology. Philosophy. One entire shelf of biographies of powerful men across different centuries and continents. And then something that surprised me. Fiction. A whole section of it tucked into the far corner like something private. Novels. Some of them old enough that the titles had faded. I pulled one out carefully. A Russian novel. Thick. Dense. The kind of book that required patience and silence and the willingness to sit inside discomfort for extended periods.

My thoughts quickly drift back to the stack of novels, and I reach for my tote bag, pulling out the first book my hand touches. Reading romance novels is not exactly good for my mental health, but I cannot seem to stop myself. They make me laugh, they make me cry, and sometimes they make me wish for something similar in my own life. But deep down, I know that is just a fantasy. I know I cannot have it, not now, maybe not ever.

he replied simply, adjusting his glasses. I rolled my eyes. “You need help. Here—” I reached for one of the novels from the table beside me, one that was light and funny. “Try reading something that won’t make your brain combust.” He raised an eyebrow. “Fiction?” “Yes, fiction,” I said, placing it in his hand. “You know, made-up stories with emotions, imagination, and people who do ridiculous things for love?” He opened the first page, his expression unreadable. For the next few minutes, the only sound was the crackle of the fire and the rustle of turning pages. Then, suddenly—

“I’m looking for some books for my fiancée, but I’m not sure what she likes to read.” The sales assistant tilted her head thoughtfully. “Well, we have a wide variety. Perhaps I can suggest some classic novels? They’re always a safe choice.” Jack nodded, feeling a little more confident. “That sounds like a good idea. Can you show me some?” The sales assistant led Jack to a shelf filled with novels from different eras and styles. “Here are some classics,” she said, picking up a volume. “This is ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen. It’s a love story that many women adore.”

Roman asked me. Confident that he would not have read it, I told him. Roman snorted derisively. “Sarah J. Maas is evidence that the traditional publishing industry is full of rubbish. Those novels are the literary equivalent of eating Cadbury chocolate for dinner.” “That’s not fair,” I said. “If you sit down and read them…” “I have read all four books,” Roman interrupted. “Including that Frost and Starlight novella nonsense. I can assure you my opinion is well-founded indeed. To begin, the riddle in the first book is so simplistic that—”

In fact, the complete opposite. It was an erotic novel, one about a young male intern who fell in love with his female boss. He skimmed over it and found words like ‘spanking’, ‘handcuffs’, and ‘bonding’, which he was pretty sure wasn’t the wholesome kind of bonding. His face heated up just by reading it. “Why the heck does the library have novels like this?” He complained. “Because they’re a fun library, duh. What do you think the moms do while the children listen to fables?”

Probably didn't have anyone to read with. “Deal,” I took her hand. “But we can read any book right?” Her eyes narrowed at me, “Novels, Raven. No foul play allowed.” I laughed at the words. “Fine.” She pulled out a heap of novels from the romance section and I picked out my pile of psychological thrillers. I wasn't about to bore myself all night with cliches. At this time, it was already raining heavily. “Maybe we should grab some snacks and blankets. It'll keep us warm and comfy throughout the night,” I suggested.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3 hours late I stretch my arms over my head and groan. I started with English. I didn't realize how behind I am with my reading. I almost panicked when I saw this year's novel. It's 1984 by George Orwell, who thought this would be a good idea. On a normal day I would have enjoyed it but right now I'm on a deadline to complete three assignments based on the book.

Kaltain Kingdom Leiya Helion brought me a bunch of novels to read while I recovered my strength completely. It was funny because they were all novels about a hero on a conquest, but falls in love along the way in the most unexpected way possible. I spent all my day reading and giggling at how silly it sounded but I kept reading. “You seem to be properly entertained." His voice distracted me and I looked up. “This book is so cliche.” I rolled my eyes, violently slamming it face down on my bed.

“Thank you, but it’s not because I’m worried that his cries will wake me up. I have something to do and I’m worried I might get distracted with the baby by my side.” Justin looked doubtful. “Are you heading out tonight?” “Justin, you might laugh at me when I tell you this, but I’m going to read a novel.” Justin was confused. “Read a novel?” Before she answered him, he flashed her a smile. “No problem, just go ahead. Why would I laugh at you? Isn’t it very normal? I read novels during my free time, too.” “I’m not reading the novel because I want to, but because there’s something I need to do, so…”
