My thoughts quickly drift back to the stack of novels, and I reach for my tote bag, pulling out the first book my hand touches. Reading romance novels is not exactly good for my mental health, but I cannot seem to stop myself. They make me laugh, they make me cry, and sometimes they make me wish for something similar in my own life. But deep down, I know that is just a fantasy. I know I cannot have it, not now, maybe not ever.

In fact, the pile of my words can be categorised as rambling. Well, I loved reading newspapers, inspirational books, classics and most importantly, novels. Love stories are a key to my heart and a fuel to my imagination. I was teased by the name 'reading maniac' because I could literally read anything. All I need is a piece of writing. Though this habit is considered ‘boring’ by my friends, but I like it so, I do it and I have no regrets or problem in being called a ‘boring person’.

My table was just filled with files and even more files like an endless ocean of inked papers I had to read through. If I begin reading a novel as the same speed as the files I read every day, I might be able to complete a five-hundred-page novel in less than a day; yes, these were my realistic expectations. My desk was a scattered mess, and I couldn’t even find a place to keep my coffee on it.

But that lasted only for some minutes before they found something else to do. Raymond was pretty much reading novels online on his phone I mean that was the top novel app trending on the net right now. So Ray couldn’t be blamed. Even Alex too was constantly reading novels on Good novel, D****e or R*****m and they were both competing on who discovered new authors and good interesting novels so they could each read and discuss about. While Ray was sneakily reading his novel, Alex was with a black pen and a book. With utmost concentration his hands motioned around the book. Looking at him, one would think he was jotting down the words of the teacher but Alexander Marshal was actually drawing.

Normal, there was that word again. I sighed, standing up and walking over to my bookshelf before grabbing a novel and curling up on my bed with it. Reading was one of my favorite pastimes because it allowed me to step into the shoes of heroes and strong lead characters so that I could at least pretend for a few hours that I was normal or even extraordinary.

If I played my cards right, I could get out of here with another clue. "You don't say." Noah rolled his eyes, scoffing underneath. " Bailey…" "But I'm all alone, there's only so much I can endure before I go mad." "And books will help you how?" "Delving into a fictionous world to live out the character's fantasies and adventures is amazing isn't it?" I put on my best smile, hoping it would work. " Don't you agree Noah? It feels…." "Since when did you pick up an interest in reading. " He wasn't buying it, at all. He tightened his grip on me and I yelped. " What are you up to, Bailey? Reading is my thing."

There's still long hours till morning. Checking the book in his hand, he discovered it to be a novel. 'The Red and the Black' by Stendhal. After checking the description of the book, he believed it wouldn't be bad to give it a try although he is not fond of reading novels. Leo prefer reading normal books, it doesn't matter which type it is as long as there are not romance books. Most of the romance books he read in the past are rather cliche, untrue and misleading because such love in books doesn't exist in this modern day society.

“Where did you learn to speak like that?” “Like what?” “Like you have been trained.” “I read, sir.” I laugh under my breath. “You read.” “Yes.” “What do you read?” She hesitates, and I know I have touched something. “Novels,” she says finally. “Mostly old ones. They are comforting.” Comforting. It is such a quiet, old-fashioned word. It does not fit the sharpness I feel when I look at her.

She said, “These novels have strong male and female protagonists. “You can have a look at them. I usually read genres like family feuds and transmigration. I don’t really like stories with confusing plots.” Imogen accepted the books. After flipping through them briefly, she said, “How much are these? I’ll buy them and read them before sleeping. I think it’ll help with my sleep.” She did not like reading novels, and people like her usually feel sleepy quickly while reading. Therefore, reading could help with sleeping in some ways. On the other hand, those who love to read would be captivated by the story and refuse to sleep before finishing the book. That would affect their sleep cycle.

sneered Liana, who had just come from the kitchen. "Your guess is wrong, Secretary Lian," said Nova. "I've read the book, people will definitely read it over and over again because they don't understand contents. But I didn't reread it, I immediately understood. Great, right?" Liana sneers. Few believe because Nova has Panic disorder. "Why doesn't Director read the novel?" asked Liana. "I'm not interested in romance in novels," said Nova. "Does the Director know the meaning of love?" asked Liana.
